Present continuous tense.

*Present Continuous tense*

The rule:

*1) We use the present continuous when we talk about something which is happening at the time of speaking:*

- Please don't make so much noise. I'm studying. (Not 'study')

*2) We use the present continuous when we talk about something which is happening around the time of speaking, but not necessarily exactly at the time of speaking.*

Study this example situation:

- Anil and Sunil are talking in a cafe.

Anil says: ' I'm reading an interesting book at the moment. I'll lend it to you when I've finished it '

*Note:* Anil isn't reading the book at the time of speaking. He means that he has begun the book and hasn't finished it yet. He is in the middle of reading it.

*3) We often use the present continuous when we talk about a period around the present. For example: today,  this season and etc. :*

-Rahul isn't playing football this season. He wants to concentrate on his studies.

*4) We use the present continuous when we talk about changing situations:*

-The population of the world is rising very fast (not 'rises')

*5) Present continuous is used to describe predetermined future actions or nearest future actions*

e.g. I am going to Delhi next month.

*Structure:*

I + am(I'm) + Verb + ing

He/she/it + is (he's etc.) + Verb  + ing

We/you/they + are (we're etc.) + Verb + ing

*We make a negative form by adding  "not"  to  am/is/are*

For example:
We are not/ we're not/ we aren't + verb + ing

*We make a question form by moving the "am/is/are"  to the first place of sentences.*

For example:  is he + Verb + ing
